Our Pancreas Transplant Program features a financial coordinator and social workers who can assist you with questions about insurance coverage and other forms of financial assistance. Although kidney/pancreas transplantation is expensive, federal health insurance (Medicare), private insurance, or state programs may be able to pay for some or much of the cost.
Assistance from Prescription Drug Companies
The immunosuppressants and other medications you must take after your transplant will be a large part of your medical expenses. Most pharmaceutical manufacturers have patient assistance programs that give discounts to patients who can show that they can’t afford the cost of their prescribed medications. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America publishes a directory of prescription drug patient assistance programs.
The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) maintains a website called Transplant Living, which helps patients learn about their treatment and find resources. The website includes a page that lists organizations that may provide financial assistance.
