Liver, Pancreas and Biliary Services

Surgeons at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) are among the world's leaders in pancreatic and biliary surgery, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of a range of conditions, from common disorders such as gallstones and pancreatitis to complex liver, gallbladder and pancreas cancers. Our board certified surgeons pioneered and continue to perfect the use of minimally invasive surgery techniques such as laparoscopic bile duct exploration and cholecystectomy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). With additional, advanced specialty training in oncology, our surgeons perform a high volume of some of the most complicated cancer surgeries, including the Whipple procedure and spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy for pancreatic cancer. This surgical specialization, along with the frequency of operations our surgeons perform, equals better outcomes for our patients.

For patients with benign and cancerous conditions, the Pancreas and Biliary Tumor Center offers an array of services through the collaborative efforts of surgeons, physicians and scientists of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Treatment Center at Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center.

Our surgeons also serve as faculty members at Harvard Medical School. They are committed to training the next generation of surgeons through BWH’s Surgical Residency and Fellowship Programs.
