Do I need a referral?
In most cases you do not need a referral unless your insurance dictates that you do. You can refer yourself. Call the Wound Care Center at 617-525-9213 to schedule an appointment.
What about follow-up visits?
You will be seen on a regular basis and each time your wound will be re-examined for progression towards healing. If tests have been ordered the doctor will review results and answer any additional questions you have about caring for your wound.
Does my insurance cover treatment?
Most health plans, including Medicare, cover Wound Center treatment. Your coverage depends on your specific plan. Be sure to bring your insurance cards with you when you visit the Wound Center and let us know of any changes during your treatment.
Will I have to change my primary care doctor or specialist?
No. In fact, our office prefers to work with your physician or medical specialist during the treatments. We even keep your doctor informed with frequent progress reports. You should continue to receive all of your routine medical care from your primary physician while you are having your wound treated at the Wound Care Center.
What can I expect at the first appointment?
The first appointment consists of an assessment by our skilled wound care team, a review of your medical history, possible lab tests or x-rays and recommendations for your treatment plan. Please be sure to bring your medical records, insurance information, a list of current medications and allergies to your appointment.
What treatment options are available?
This is a question that will be answered once you have your first visit and your wound is assessed. We have a multitude of treatments available to you such as debridement (cleaning of your wound with instruments), grafts, compression wraps, and more. Prior to any treatment being performed, the treatment will be explained to you and all your questions will be answered.
Do you also treat burn wounds?
We do not see burn wounds, please call the BWH Burn Clinic: 617-525-9327
Does your office see colostomy, urostomy, g-tube or fistula patients?
We do not see these things. Please call the Stoma Clinic: 617-732-5038
Where are you located inside the hospital?
When you walk into the 45 Francis Street lobby you’ll head straight through it to the hallway behind the lobby. Turn left onto that hallway and continue forward until you find elevator “G” on your right. Take that elevator down to the first floor. Exit the elevator to the left and proceed down the hallway. The Wound Care/ Ambulatory Treatment Center is the first office on the left. Check in at the front desk. Thank you.
