The Division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) offers comprehensive clinical services and support for patients with oral diseases as well as medically complex patients requiring dental care in the hospital setting. We are committed to providing the highest level of expert oral medicine and dental care.
Our board certified specialists are supported by other clinical and administrative staff working as one cohesive team to provide the best possible care for each patient. In addition, patients have full access to BWH’s world-renowned academic medical center in Boston with its other diverse multidisciplinary specialists and state-of-the-art facilities.
What to Expect During Your First Visit
In most cases you will first be seen by an oral medicine resident (working under the supervision of an oral medicine specialist) who will obtain your medical history and conduct a comprehensive physical examination of the head and neck and oral cavity. The oral medicine specialist will then see you together with the resident. You may also meet residents in oral and maxillofacial pathology, and dermatology, as well as pre-doctoral students from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Harvard Medical School (HMS).
Additional tests, such as a biopsy, may be necessary to determine the clinical diagnosis. Treatment options will be discussed and in most cases printed information about your condition and treatment plan will be provided at the end of the visit.
Please have the name of your primary care physician, dentist and other medical specialists with you so that reports can be sent regarding your diagnosis and treatment.
