Numerous factors can heighten your risk of developing breast cancer. Being female and older than 50 are two of the most significant reasons. You may also be at risk if you are a cancer survivor or had previous radiation. A family history of certain cancers and inherited gene mutations can also be contributors. Other at-risk factors include being overweight, daily alcohol consumption, hormone use and some benign breast abnormalities. Learn about risk factors for breast cancer.
If you’re concerned or have been told that you may be at higher risk for breast cancer because of these or other factors, the Breast cancer Personalized Risk assessment, Education and Prevention (B-PREP) Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital can help.
