Brigham and Women's Integrated Spine Center APPs

At the Brigham and Women’s Integrated Spine Center, we have a team of centralized Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) who conduct triage visits to help expedite care. These clinical team members can see both nonsurgical and surgical diagnoses and ensure patients are directed to the right clinical intervention. Learn more about our team below.

In this video, Michael Ferrick, Lead of Non-operative Advanced Practice Providers within the Brigham and Women’s Spine Center, and Amy Toombs, Spine Center Physician Assistant, outline the impact of new and triage visits conducted by advanced practice providers within the Spine Center.

I’m originally from Mantua, NJ, about 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia. I graduated with a B.S. from The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ in 2020 with a dual major in biology and psychology, then graduated from Salus University in Elkins Park, PA with a M.M.S. in physician assistant studies in 2022. I moved to Boston shortly after graduating from PA school and have been working at the Brigham and Women's Spine Center since February 2023, which is my first job as a physician assistant. I love Boston and consider it to be my new home, but I will always be a Philly sports fan!

I have been at BWH Spine Center since the triage role and APPs were incorporated in July 2021 (so going on three years at this point). BWH Spine Center is my first role as a physician assistant since I graduated from Boston University in late 2020. I am originally from central Massachusetts (West Brookfield). Prior to returning to school to become a physician assistant, I worked in a hospital-based non-surgical weight loss program in Rhode Island as an exercise physiologist for five years. Outside of work, I enjoy Crossfit and trying new restaurants.
