Welcome to the Hsu Lab
We are part of the Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard Medical School. Our laboratory is located on the 6th floor of the Hale Building for Transformative Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, 60 Fenwood Road, Boston, MA 02115.
We study mechanisms of intracellular transport, a fundamental process that is needed for the proper localization of proteins and membranes within the cell for their proper function. Coat proteins initiate intracellular transport pathways by bending membrane to form transport carriers. We have been studying a coat complex that acts in the early secretory pathway and another that acts in endocytic recycling. These studies have contributed to a fundamental understanding of how intracellular transport is accomplished. We have also been applying these basic insights to understanding key physiologic events, and how their abnormalities lead to pathological conditions, including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and immunological diseases, and viral infections.
