About the Virtual Prostate Cancer Clinic
Patients who have received radiation treatment for prostate cancer in the Department of Radiation Oncology may be referred to the Virtual Prostate Cancer Clinic (VPCC) to manage follow-up care.
Follow-up care after prostate cancer treatment includes regular blood tests (prostate specific antigen or PSA) and monitoring of symptoms. Prior to the VPCC, follow-up visits occurred in-person at the hospital with a healthcare provider. The VPCC allows patients to have PSA tests drawn closer to home, receive prompt communication regarding results and arrange for virtual or in-person visits, as needed, to address any symptoms or questions.
The main goals of the VPCC are to:
- Improve access to care
- Reduce time and costs associated with in-person follow-up visits
- Maintain high-quality care and continuity for our patients
How Does it Work?
VPCC staff will arrange for lab orders (PSA) at a location that is convenient for you.
When due for follow-up care, you will be required to get labs completed and answer an electronic survey about your symptoms.
You will be notified once the VPCC healthcare provider receives and reviews your lab and survey results.
You will always be able to easily contact the VPCC staff to discuss any questions you may have and in-person visits can be scheduled at any time.
Currently, we require that VPCC patients:
- Are enrolled and active on Patient Gateway
- Have an active email address to receive reminders and other electronic communications
