How To Apply for CPE Residency

Dates: Yearly from September–May, 40 hours per week.

Prerequisites: Master of Divinity (or equivalent) and one unit of ACPE-accredited Level I CPE (must be completed at time of application for residency program).

Application Fee: $75 (Check to be made out to 'BWH Chaplaincy Fund.' Please enclose with application).

Application Deadline: February 1

To Apply:

  1. Complete the BWH CPE application form (PDF).
  2. Include one recent verbatim with a reflection on how you integrated your learning from presenting the verbatim to your peer group.
  3. Include all final evaluations written by yourself and by your educator from your previous unit(s) of CPE (or your mid-unit evaluation, if unit still in progress).
  4. Write two-page statement of your ethos of caregiving.
  5. Write two-page statement of what learning goals you would like to work on in a CPE residency in light of your previous CPE unit(s). This should include a statement of what talents and experience you think you would bring to a residency and how a CPE residency fits into your future plans.
  6. Please send the BWH CPE Reference forms (PDF) to three people who can serve as references for you. References should be one academic or professional, one denominational, and one personal. Completed reference forms should be sent directly to the BWH Spiritual Care Office at the address on the forms.
