The Cardiovascular Pathology Service of the Division of Surgical Pathology provides comprehensive diagnostic expertise in the pathology of the heart and blood vessels, including endomyocardial biopsies (transplant and native heart), explanted hearts, cardiac valves (native and prosthetic), aorta, cardiac tumors, and temporal arteries. In addition to providing cardiovascular pathology services for Brigham and Women's Hospital, the Service also has an active consultation practice. Educational programs are in place for teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. The Service works closely with the cardiac medical and surgical services both clinically and in research endeavors. Research interests of the faculty include valvular, ischemic and myocardial pathology, substitute valves and other prosthetic devices, transplant pathology, and immunopathology.
