Shoulder Surgery

Our Approach to Shoulder Care

Pain and limited mobility in the shoulder due to osteoarthritis can interfere with your life and stop you from being as active as you want to be. It may limit your mobility, prevent you from doing things you love, and affect your ability to lead an active lifestyle.

At the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Center for Joint Health and Mobility, we'll work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan for reducing pain and restoring mobility. We'll help ensure you have less pain, recover faster and can get back to your life as soon as possible. Our team can help you review the advantages of one or more approaches for your unique situation, including preservation, revision, restoration, and full joint replacement surgery. You may choose treatments ranging from physical therapy to surgery. We create a customized treatment plan based on your personal goals and the condition of your shoulder.

Our team cares for a wide range of shoulder conditions, from muscle strains and tears, to shoulder replacements.

Expert Specialists in Shoulder Replacement Surgery

If you've tried non-surgical treatments and are still experiencing pain from osteoarthritis, shoulder replacement surgery may be the best next step. Our expert shoulder surgeons at the Center for Joint Health and Mobility have vast expertise in and offer innovative and minimally invasive surgical options including total, partial, double, and reverse shoulder replacement surgery. Our surgeons also incorporate robotic technology in the operating room to enhance the surgical precision and accuracy of joint replacement procedures exponentially.

From pre-habilitation, which optimizes your health before surgery, to rehabilitation after surgery, our team is here for you every step of the way.

Same-day Joint Replacement Option Offers Flexibility

At Brigham and Women's, we understand you may want to get home, on the road to recovery, and back to your life as soon as possible. That’s why we offer same-day (outpatient) joint replacement surgery for patients who meet certain criteria.

If you qualify for same-day surgery, you will have the option to stay in the hospital overnight or go home the same day the surgery takes place, offering you the flexibility to recover in the way that is most convenient to you. Patients who choose to have same-day surgery will also be monitored via regular check-ins with the surgical team, nurses, and PAs to answer questions and ensure a smooth and seamless recovery.
