Robotic Adenomyomectomy Historical Video

Presented by Brigham and Women's Hospital at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine in Atlanta, October 20, 2009

This historical video illustrates in full detail the surgical technique for robot-assisted enucleation of an adenomyoma. Adenomyosis is an endometriosis of the uterine wall that is associated with pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding and reproductive dysfunction. Diffuse adenomyosis cannot be surgically addressed, whereas excision of focal adenomyosis (also known as ADENOMYOMA) followed by uterine reconstruction is possible. Such adenomyomectomy is exceedingly difficult to perform by conventional laparoscopy and even by open surgery. The video focuses on the dexterity allowed by the degree of articulation of the robotic instruments, which allow meticulous dissection of disease and reconstruction of the uterine layers.
