Social Work
The Center for Multiples includes a social worker who will follow you throughout your pregnancy and postpartum period, about 12 weeks after your delivery. Should one or more of your babies require a stay in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), she will be available for you then as well.
In collaboration with the rest of our expert clinical team, our social worker focuses on the health and well-being of you, your babies and your family. She can assist you in addressing issues such as:
- Navigating the health system to optimize the health of you and your babies
- Dealing with the stress of a multiples and/or high-risk pregnancy and complex medical challenges
- Preparing for a possible cesarean delivery
- Learning about community programs and services available for multiple families
- Balancing the needs of your newborns and any other children you have at home
- Identifying and evaluating options for postpartum care, including doulas and night nurses
- Accessing financial assistance to cover the costs of items such as diapers and specialized formula
- Watching for warning signs of postpartum depression and learning the skills to help manage symptoms
- Understanding how to register babies with insurance
Following your delivery, you may want to take part in our online postpartum support group.
Count on our social worker to help you navigate multiple pregnancy and parenthood and set up your family for a happier, healthier future.
