Maternal-Fetal Medicine

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, also known as High-Risk Obstetrics, at Brigham and Women's Hospital offers exceptional high-risk pregnancy care for women with complications identified prior to or during pregnancy and for their unborn babies. Our goal is to ensure a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery for each mother and baby through careful planning, medical expertise, and multidisciplinary teamwork.

We understand that each patient has personal and unique concerns. This is why we encourage our patients - and those close to them - to be active participants in care, and we work with each family to meet their needs. Through each step, we clearly explain every aspect of care – discussing all appropriate options to help women and their families make the best decisions.

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine offers a comprehensive range of high-risk pregnancy services including prenatal care and diagnosis, assessment and treatment of fetal disease, high-risk ambulatory and inpatient consultation, state-of-the art obstetrical ultrasound, genetic counseling, social services, support groups and nutrition counseling. We also collaborate with community-based obstetricians to co-manage patients in locations throughout the Boston area.

Premature and critically ill newborns are cared for by internationally renowned neonatologists in our state-of-the-art Level III NICU, the largest in Massachusetts. Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists also collaborate with pediatricians at Boston Children's Hospital – connected by a pedestrian bridge to Brigham and Women’s Hospital – to provide specialty pediatric care.

Our commitment to excellence spans our missions of providing exceptional clinical care, moving care forward through research, and teaching the next generation of leaders in women’s health.
