Physicians in General Obstetrics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) offer expert, family-friendly services for mothers-to-be, from preconception and prenatal visits to labor, delivery and postpartum care. Our dedication to women and babies has not wavered since our predecessor hospital (Boston Lying-in Hospital) was founded in 1832 as one of the nation’s first maternity hospitals.
Today, our board-certified obstetricians—many of whom have advanced training in subspecialty areas—deliver more babies than any other hospital in the region. Under the leadership of Robert L. Barbieri, MD, interim chief of Obstetrics, our OB/GYN physicians provide services at multiple locations in Boston and surrounding communities.
Our hospital-based BWH Obstetrics Practice offers outpatient care for a diverse population at our 75 Francis Street location. Specialized services focus on African women’s health, Hispanic pregnant women and infectious disease. The Brigham Obstetrics and Gynecology Group cares for patients at 500 Brookline Avenue in Boston, at Brigham and Women’s Health Care Center in Chestnut Hill and at Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center in Foxborough. Our affiliated OB/GYN practices provide services throughout the Boston area.
Babies are delivered at the Center for Women and Newborns at the Mary Horrigan Connors Center for Women’s Health where we provide state-of-the-art, patient-focused labor and delivery care, ranging from natural childbirth options to cesarean sections for high-risk pregnancies.
Our obstetricians, all faculty members of Harvard Medical School, coordinate care with maternal-fetal medicine specialists, midwives, genetic counselors, neonatologists and nursing staff, as well as other specialists throughout BWH.
