Gynecologic Office-based Procedures

After a new patient consultation with your provider, they may recommend one of these office-based procedures.

We offer the following office-based procedures:

  • Hysteroscopy; uterine evaluation
  • Colposcopy and cervical biopsies
  • Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP)
  • Vulvar biopsies
  • Endometrial biopsies (uterus)
  • Treatment of genital warts
  • Incision and drainage of vulvar abscesses, Bartholin gland cyst/abscess

Surgery Location and Expectations

The procedure would be scheduled for an upcoming office visit and would take place in our ambulatory GYN offices with local anesthesia as needed.

Recovery Time

You would return home after the procedure, and most people return to work and other usual activities the next day.

Gynecologic Operating Room Procedures

After a new patient consultation, your provider may recommend surgery as an option.

We perform these types of surgeries:

  • Laparoscopy
    • Diagnostic laparoscopy
    • Endometriosis excision and ablation
    • Ovarian cystectomy (removal of ovarian cyst)
    • Oophorectomy (removal of ovary)
    • Salpingectomy (removal of fallopian tubes)
    • Tubal ligation (“tying tubes”, sterilization)
  • Hysterectomy (vaginal, laparoscopic, abdominal approaches)
  • Myomectomy (removal of fibroid)
  • Operative hysteroscopy

Surgery Location and Expectations

Surgery is generally scheduled within weeks and may occur at the Brigham main campus or at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. Most GYN surgery is considered “day surgery.” These patients have general anesthesia for the procedure, but still go home from the hospital the same day.

Recovery Time

Recovery time can vary and will be discussed at your pre-op visit with your provider.
