The Women's Neurology program at Brigham and Women's Hospital is a unique interdisciplinary and interdivisional neurology program that brings together neurologists, neuroradiologists and neurosurgeons who have clinical and research interests in women's health and neurology. The program was established to raise awareness of issues specific to women with neurological disease, to build a clinical resource and referral base for patients and other physicians and to build research collaborations that examine gender differences in neurological disease.
The program aims to meet the unique health care needs of women suffering from neurological disease, and is focused on the gender differences in medical evaluation, diagnosis, implementation of treatment and care. We consider how hormonal and reproductive changes throughout a woman's lifespan, including pregnancy and menopause, as well as use of oral contraceptives and assisted reproduction, impact neurological health and disease. Mary A. O'Neal, MD currently serves as the director of the program.
