Specialty Clinics

The Movement Disorders Division houses several specialty clinics dedicated to comprehensive care of complex disorders. These include:

  • Neuromodulation clinic: Offers deep brain stimulation and MRI-guided focused ultrasound ablation (FUSA) to patients with tremor, Parkinson disease, dystonia, and other movement disorders. This clinic is led by Dr. Michael Hayes and partners with our Neurosurgery department, Mapping and Engineering Neural Dynamics (MEND) Laboratory led by Dr. John Rolston, and the Center for Brain Circuit Therapeutics, led by Dr. Michael Fox.
  • PAMSA (Parkinson’s plus + Ataxia + Multiple System Atrophy) Clinic: Founded in 2017 by Dr Vikram (Vik) Khurana, the PAMSA clinic is now co-led by Dr. Khurana and the Movement Division Clinical Director, Barbara (Kelly) Changizi. The clinic and Center focus on the clinical management and cutting-edge development of treatments for patients diagnosed with parkinsonian syndromes (Parkinson’s disease progressive supranuclear palsy, Lewy body dementia) , ataxia and multiple system atrophy. Within the clinic, Dr Widad Abou-Chaar focuses on ataxia and neurogenetics cases. The clinic has been  designated national center of excellence for MSA and is a major referral center from across New England, the United States and internationally. The clinic works closely with basic and translational neuroscientists within the Khurana LabHarvard Biomarkers Study and MyTrial programs.
  • Under the direction of Dr. Khurana, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School is an American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) Center for Advanced Research. The APDA CAR at BWH focuses on understanding Parkinson's disease heterogeneity and developing targeted therapies through collaborations with Harvard-affiliated entities, leveraging extensive biomarker data, stem cell models, and genomic studies. By combining patient trials with advanced research techniques, the Center accelerates drug discovery and explores gene-environment interactions, neuromodulation, and molecular stratification to create precise, patient-specific therapies for PD.
