Deep Roots in Rheumatology
Our hospital's roots in rheumatology run deep. The Brigham was established in 1980 with the merger of three hospitals. One of those hospitals, the Robert Breck Brigham Hospital, focused on rheumatic diseases and was the nation's first teaching hospital devoted exclusively to treating arthritis and related conditions. Over the years, our research has led to breakthroughs in the treatment of many rheumatic diseases, improving the lives of millions of patients worldwide.
Today, Brigham investigators continue to lead the way in rheumatologic research, and their insights improve the quality of care for patients. Our commitment to collaborating with many other specialties throughout the hospital enables us to improve patient care in an individualized manner. In addition, we host the internationally renowned Rheumatology and Immunology Fellowship Training Program, which prepares future leaders in research and clinical care.
