AWARD Pillar 1: Mentorship and Sponsorship

Mentorship and Sponsorship Pillar Team

Dr. Ana Valle, Dr. Candace Feldman, Dr. Daniel Solomon, Dr. Valerie Stone, Dr. Grace Wright and Tyler Green.

We would like to thank Dr. Mia Chandler for her contributions to this pillar.

Goal

One of the ways to enhance diversity in the field of rheumatology is to support and encourage individuals through mentorship and sponsorship. The workgroup for the mentoring pillar aims to build infrastructure to identify, match, and support mentor-mentee pairings in pediatric and adult rheumatology and advanced practice provider (APP) fields for career exploration and guidance.

Strategies to Achieve Goal

  • Connect with national organizations to identify mentors, mentees, and sponsors
  • Adapt previously existing tools to facilitate mentor/mentee matching
  • Promote effective mentor relationships through the leverage and tailoring of existing training materials
  • Develop evaluation materials to survey the benefits of mentorship
