The Women’s Lung Health Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) provides individually-tailored disease management to address the specific needs of women who have lung disease. Brigham and Women’s Hospital was the first hospital in the nation to focus on gender medicine recognizing that diseases can develop and progress differently in women and men. Treating women with lung cancer is an important focus of the Women’s Lung Health Program.
Another special expertise of the Women’s Lung Health Program is the Pulmonary Genetics Center - a first of its kind - which provides clinical, education and research support in the management of genetic diseases affecting the respiratory system.
Our highly-experienced medical staff are all board-certified and faculty at Harvard Medical School. They draw on BWH’s significant and collective experience and expertise in women’s health and sex-and gender-based treatment and research. Patients also benefit from the teamwork of expert pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, infectious disease physicians, geneticists and scientists.
The Women’s Lung Health Program is a collaboration between The Lung Center, the Mary Horrigan Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology. It is one of The Lung Center’s thirty-six programs which integrate the skills of sub-specialists focusing on a specific disease or condition.
