Pulmonary vascular disease (PVD) encompasses a broad group of conditions that affect the blood vessels between the lungs and the heart, making breathing difficult. Diseases include pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary embolism, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) and hepatopulmonary syndrome.
The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine collaborates with cardiovascular and thoracic surgery specialists in our unique Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program, part of The Lung Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). Our board-certified pulmonologists—Harvard Medical School faculty—lead a team of referring physicians, nurse specialists, pharmacists and other medical professionals in developing a care plan individualized to patient needs. We offer leading-edge diagnostic testing and drug therapies, monitor disease progression and manage patients with advanced disease. Patients benefit from our ongoing research and have access to the latest clinical trials.
Pulmonary and critical care medicine services are provided in the outpatient setting or our state-of-the-art inpatient units at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
