Crohn’s and Colitis Center Mental Health Services

Like most chronic diseases, Crohn's and Colitis can affect the whole person, as well as that person's family and friends. Occasionally the disease can affect you mentally, emotionally and physically despite your best efforts. The Crohn's and Colitis Center provides mental health services with a social worker; we also work very closely with the Department of Psychiatry to coordinate care. Your mental health is a pivotal factor for maintaining overall health and coping with IBD in a positive, productive way.

Our Approach

We believe that the best results occur when we have a complete understanding of each individual's medical, cognitive, social, and psychological issues and how they impact one's functioning. We encourage our patients to allow us to confer with their other clinicians, family and significant others about their care. We also believe that working in a collaborative, team-based approach with others at the Crohn's and Colitis Center yields the best outcomes. Each patient is an active participant in his or her care, and we work together to design a personalized treatment plan that can greatly improve the patient’s quality of life and positively affect the course of their disease.
