We believe that participative decision-making, highly effective teamwork, and excellence in patient and family care are best accomplished via a shared governance structure that encourages the voice of all nurses to be heard.
Our committee structure is designed to accomplish work in key strategic areas and bring together nurses from different practice areas and roles to influence, shape, guide, recommend and/or approve decisions. To facilitate effective communication and coordination, linkages exist between and among committees and individual nurse leaders accountable for departmental or hospital programs and committees.
The primary work of the Department of Nursing Committees is to provide forums in which the expertise of nurses can influence and shape the nursing practice environment. Membership on committees is an opportunity for professional development and growth.
- The Nursing Coordinating Committee, which is made up of committee chairs and co-chairs, is the governing body of the committee structure.
- Each division is represented by a committee, which focuses on quality, wellness, recognition, policies and programs.
- Additional committees within the structure focus on the following areas: Nursing Informatics; Research and Innovation; Standards, Policies and Procedures; Advanced Practice Nursing; and Magnet, Recognition and Well-being.
- Updates are reported to the Nursing Coordinating Committee and from the Nursing Coordinating Committee to promote bi-directional communication.
