The Division of Thoracic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital began providing oncology treatment for patients with cancer of the lungs and chest over 25 years ago. Our innovative program—the first of its kind in the United States—continues to grow in size and reputation. Now, under The Lung Center, our cancer programs include a team of medical and surgical specialists providing integrated care for every type of lung and chest cancer.
The Lung Center at the Brigham combines the clinical and research expertise of a team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, thoracic surgeons and pulmonologists. Physicians and specialists from the Divisions of Thoracic Surgery, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and the Lowe Center for Thoracic Oncology within Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center, work closely together, delivering the latest advancements in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of lung and chest cancers. These board-certified physicians not only specialize in thoracic cancers, but are engaged in medical research in these same areas, developing innovative medical and surgical approaches that improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
With close attention to patient and family needs, we educate patients about their specific type of cancer and treatment options so they can make informed decisions. We offer a range of supportive services, including nutritional counseling, emotional and spiritual support, financial advice and complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and massage. Our goal is to treat the whole person throughout the cancer experience—from diagnosis to treatment to recovery.
The Lung Center at Brigham and Women's Hospital addresses every type and stage of cancer that occurs in the lungs or chest.
