Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program

Patients born with cardiac conditions are surviving longer—with excellent heart function— thanks to advancements in pediatric and adult cardiology. Though most patients have conditions that are not curable, their diseases can be successfully managed with monitoring by an experienced team of specialists.

The Adult Congenital Heart Disease program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) is helping adults born with heart conditions to live longer and healthier lives. In collaboration with Boston Children’s Hospital and the Boston Adult Congenital Heart (BACH) Program, our board-certified cardiovascular experts provide evaluation and diagnosis, with the aid of the latest in advanced imaging technologies, for patients aged 16 years and older who have congenital heart disease and related illnesses. Our team also provides long-term medical and surgical care, in addition to counseling and education.

The unique training of our cardiovascular specialists allows them to successfully transition patients from pediatric cardiac care to adult care. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists includes cardiologists, physician assistants and nurses experienced in both adult and pediatric congenital heart disease. They collaborate with BWH physician specialists such as electrophysiologists, cardiac surgeons, oncologists, gastroenterologists, hematologists and nephrologists.

Services range from outpatient to inpatient to intensive care and include:

  • Cardiac anesthesia guidance
