The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day.
The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way, so they established the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Award.
The DAISY Nurse Leader Award recognizes the incredible work that nursing leaders do every day. Honorees can be any nursing leader who impacts patient care.
DAISY nursing leaders impact staff and/or the patient care by:
- Nurturing a culture of trust, compassion and mutual respect
- Fostering an environment focused on excellence, collaboration, knowledge and compassion in support of relationship-based care
- Motivating staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for themselves and for their patients
Anyone can nominate a nursing leader, including all staff, volunteers, visitors and patients and families.
Thank you for taking the time to nominate an extraordinary nurse leader for this award.
