Overview

Our fellowship program has been in existence since 1992 and is currently ACGME accredited for six fellows. The fellowship is either 12 months or 18 months depending on the educational and academic goals of the fellow. In addition to the combined ACGME Adult Cardiothoracic/Critical Care Medicine two-year fellowship, we also have fellowships that combine basic science and/or clinical research in an 18- to 24-month program.

The Adult Cardiothoracic fellowship is structured to provide fellows with a comprehensive perioperative clinical experience balanced with formal didactics, conferences and research. Fellows should develop sufficient depth of understanding and proficiency in the perioperative evaluation, management and follow-up of complex cardiothoracic and structural heart patients so they can serve as expert consultants to our surgical, medical and anesthesiology colleagues.

Curriculum

The Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital offers education to the fellows both in the operating room and lecture room setting.

The didactic curriculum includes:

  • Cardiac Anesthesia lecture series
