Sahar Nissim, MD, PhD, of the Division of Genetics and the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy, received the Rising Star Award from the National Pancreas Foundation. This award recognizes those in the field who are providing groundbreaking research for pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.
The National Pancreas Foundation provides hope for those suffering from pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer through funding cutting-edge research, advocating for new and better therapies, and providing support and education for patients, caregivers and health care professionals.
Nissim, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, received both his medical degree and doctorate from HMS and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology at BWH. In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Nissim heads a research lab that specializes in pancreas biology and cancer genetics. His research efforts aim to uncover new genetic causes of hereditary cancer syndromes and to pioneer interception strategies that actively prevent cancer from forming.
