Ana-Lucia Garcia Guarniz, MD |
Ana-Lucia Garcia Guarniz, MD, of the Department of Neurology, received a two-year, $150,000 Lawrence M. Brass, MD, Clinical Research Training Scholarship in Stroke from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) to further her clinical research in stroke care.
Named in memory of Yale neurologist and stroke expert Lawrence Brass, MD, who died in 2006 at age 49, this scholarship seeks to encourage early-career investigators in clinical studies related to stroke, vascular neurology and neurocritical care.
Garcia Guarniz’s research focuses on studying metabolites using light chromatography and mass spectrometry, a field known as metabolomics, to identify potential biomarkers and unravel disease mechanisms related to ischemic stroke. This award will allow her to investigate the role of gut-brain metabolites as risk predictors for post-stroke cognitive impairment.
This award was funded by the American Heart Association and American Brain Foundation, in collaboration with the American Academy of Neurology. The AAN is the world’s largest association of neurologists and neuroscience professionals, with more than 40,000 members.
