A team of six researchers in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics received a Health Equity Innovation Pilot Award from the Department of Medicine. This award provides funding for action-oriented research or clinical innovation projects that evaluate existing inequities in patient care and, ideally, develop and pilot test interventions to address these inequities.
The project team’s six members are part of the division’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiative:
- Andrew Basham, PhD
- Catherine Hwang, MD, MSPH
- Hussain Lalani, MD, MPH, MSc
- Lauren Moran, MD, MPH
- Theresa Oduol, BS
- Benjamin Rome, MD, MPH
The team will use this award to understand patterns and structures of missing and misclassified race and ethnicity data within electronic health record data linked to claims data. The team brings division trainees and faculty together to design and disseminate resources to equip researchers with useful tools to effectively engage in health disparities research.
The Department of Medicine at Brigham is a recognized leader in patient care, teaching and research at the local, national and global level, and is at the forefront of clinical, translational and basic research that has led to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.
