Five Brigham researchers were selected as recipients of The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation’s 2023 Stepping Strong Innovator Awards. Awardees receive $100,000 to pursue an innovative and collaborative project with the goal of transforming trauma care.
Each year, the Stepping Strong Innovator Awards recognize and support projects that address well-defined clinical problems across the continuum of trauma care from prevention to treatment and recovery. The following individuals and teams received this year’s awards:
- Geoffrey A. Anderson, MD, MPH, Division of Trauma, Burn and Surgical Critical Care, and Juan P. Herrera-Escobar, MD, MPH, Center for Surgery and Public Health, for “Beyond Surviving: Implementing the Transforming Recovery after Injury for the Long-term (TRAIL) Clinic at Brigham and Women’s Hospital”
- Mahdi Ebnali, PhD, Neil and Elise Wallace STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation, for “An Augmented Reality (AR) Smart Decisions Support System to Advance Trauma Care at the Point of Injury”
- Saef Izzy, MD, MBChB, Division of Neurocritical Care and Cerebrovascular Diseases, for “Novel Immune Therapy to Promote Neurological Recovery after Traumatic Brain Injury”
- James A. Lederer, PhD, Department of Surgery, “Restoring Immune Homeostasis and Recovery in Trauma by Trained Immunity”
The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation inspires robust multidisciplinary and multi-institutional research collaborations while providing funding to talented physician-scientists — all with a goal of transforming trauma care for civilians and military heroes who suffer from devastating traumatic injuries.
