Khurana Wins ANA Derek Denny-Brown Young Neurological Scholar Award in Basic Science

Vikram Khurana, MD, PhD

Vikram Khurana, MD, PhD, chief of the Division of Movement Disorders, was selected for the American Neurological Association's (ANA) 2023 Derek Denny-Brown Young Neurological Scholar Award in Basic Science for his presentation "The Systems Cell Biology of Neurodegeneration: Proteins to Stem Cells to Patients."

The ANA's Derek Denny-Brown Young Neurological Scholar Awards are considered the ANA's most prestigious annual awards. They are given to members who are in the first 12 years of their career, have achieved significant stature in neurological research and are expected to continue making major contributions to the field. Khurana will accept the award at the ANA Annual Meeting, Sept. 9-12, in Philadelphia.

An associate professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and a principal research investigator in the Brigham's Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases, Khurana focuses his research on combining molecular and cellular-level understanding of protein-misfolding with genomics, stem cell technologies and innovative clinical trial design to develop therapies to prevent, slow or reverse neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.

The American Neurological Association has been the vanguard of research since 1875 as the premier professional society of academic neurologists and neuroscientists devoted to understanding and treating diseases of the nervous system.
