Ishani Ganguli, MD, MPH, of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care, received the Seema S. Sonnad Emerging Leader in Managed Care Research Award from the American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC) for her outstanding contributions to the field of managed care research, including her work on cascades of care, her efforts to disseminate her research through journalism and her mentorship of female trainees. This award recognizes an individual whose early achievements in managed care research demonstrate the potential for making an exceptional, long-term contribution as a leader in the field.
This honor is named for Seema S. Sonnad, PhD, former associate editor of the AJMC, who died in 2015. She served as a mentor to many young researchers and was the inspiration for an award that recognizes and encourages early-career achievements in the field of managed care.
Ganguli is an assistant professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, a primary care physician at Brigham and Women’s Advanced Primary Care Associates and a health services researcher studying the use and consequences of low-value care, ambulatory care payment and delivery innovation and gender equity. She serves as an associate editor at JAMA Network Open. She is also a former journalist who has written about science and health care for publications including The Boston Globe, Reuters, The New York Times and The Washington Post.
The AJMC is an independent, peer-reviewed publication dedicated to disseminating clinical information to managed care physicians, clinical decision-makers and other health care professionals. Its aim is to stimulate scientific communication in the ever-evolving field of managed care.
