Barnett, Keating Honored by Society of General Internal Medicine

Michael L. Barnett, MD Nancy Lynn Keating, MD, MPH

Michael L. Barnett, MD, and Nancy Lynn Keating, MD, MPH, both of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care, were honored at the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) Annual Meeting this spring. Barnett was named the SGIM Outstanding Junior Investigator of the Year, and Keating won the John M. Eisenberg National Award for Career Achievement in Research.

Barnett’s award recognizes an SGIM junior investigator whose career has had national impact on generalist research. His research focuses on improving the health care delivery system, specifically health care payments and health care in the opioid epidemic.

The John M. Eisenberg National Award — named in memory of John M. Eisenberg, MD, MBA, who served as a mentor, researcher and director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality — honors an SGIM senior member whose innovative research has changed the way professionals care for patients, conduct research or educate students. Keating’s research focuses on provider, patient and health system factors that influence the delivery of high-quality care for individuals with cancer.

SGIM aims to empower innovative educators, researchers and clinicians in academic general internal medicine who are dedicated to enhancing medical education and improving access to health care for all populations.
