With a career spanning more than four decades, Laws is a leading expert on brain and pituitary cancer. His contributions have centered on the development of multidisciplinary groups to deal with a variety of neurological and neuro-endocrine diseases, including multiple clinical trials and the development of collaborative ventures, such as the Pituitary/Neuroendocrine Center at the Brigham. Over the course of his surgical career, he has operated upon more than 8,000 brain tumors, of which over 6,000 have been pituitary lesions.

The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice.
