Katherine Andriole, PhD, Bharti Khurana, MD, and Jennifer Uyeda, MD, all of the Department of Radiology, were selected for the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2019 Honored Educators Award. This award acknowledges those most invested in furthering radiologic education through the creation of high-quality educational content in their field of study.
Andriole is the director of Research Strategy and Operations at the MGH & BWH Center for Clinical Data Science. She has developed and taught several formal courses, directed fellowships in biomedical imaging and informatics, and mentored more than 60 trainees. Her research involves technical as well as clinically relevant developments in medical informatics, picture archiving and communication systems, digital radiography, image processing and analysis, business analytics and machine learning.
Khurana serves as the director of Emergency Musculoskeletal Radiology and is a three-time recipient of this prestigious award (2014, 2018, 2019). She is passionate about trauma imaging, providing meaningful imaging interpretations by radiologists and developing machine learning algorithms for injury detection. She believes in harnessing the power of artificial intelligence for radiologists to move beyond clinical diagnosis, collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams, improve overall health outcomes and be an agent of social change.
Uyeda, an emergency and abdominal radiologist, serves as the associate program director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program and assistant director of Emergency Radiology. Prior to her involvement with the residency program, she served as the Associate Director of the BWH Harvard Medical School Radiology Clerkship. Her research interests include trauma imaging, acute and emergency pathologies in the abdomen and pelvis, and dual energy CT. She is involved in national societies including the Radiological Society of North America, American Society of Emergency Radiology and Society of Abdominal Radiology.
The RSNA is a nonprofit organization that provides its 54,000-plus members with high-quality educational resources, hosts the world’s largest radiology conference and publishes top peer-reviewed journals, including Radiology and RadioGraphics.
