Mel Feany, MD, PhD, from the Department of Pathology, received the 2019 Landis Award for Outstanding Mentorship from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institute of Health.
The Landis Award, named in honor of former NINDS Director Story Landis, PhD, recognizes individuals who have shown dedication to mentorship and training in neuroscience research. With this award, NINDS encourages faculty to make mentorship a strong component of their career and emphasizes the need to promote and reward excellent mentorship in the scientific community.
Feany was recognized for her tremendous efforts as a mentor at the Brigham and for fostering a collaborative environment within her lab. The Landis Award will grant Feany $100,000 to support her continuing efforts toward advancing the careers of her trainees. As an investigator, Feany currently focuses her research on identifying genes and molecular pathways that play a role in neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
NINDS conducts and funds research on brain and nervous system disorders and seeks better understanding of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neurological disease.
