Laura Cox, PhD, and Tracy Young-Pearse, PhD, both of BWH’s Department of Neurology and the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases, have been awarded a grant by The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, an organization founded by activist and author Maria Shriver.

The awards were given to leading researchers at five organizations who are dedicated to uncovering why Alzheimer’s disease disproportionately affects women.

Cox’s research focuses on gender-based issues related to the gut microbiome and neurologic diseases; Young-Pearse studies the role stem cells can play in diagnosing and treating Alzheimer’s disease. This work is done in collaboration with the center’s co-directors: Dennis Selkoe, MD, and Howard Weiner, MD, both of Neurology.

The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, founded by Shriver, is a global alliance of individuals, organizations, researchers, foundations, influencers and industry leaders committed to studying Alzheimer’s prevalence among women.
