BWH Re-accredited as a Level 1 Trauma Center

The BWH Trauma Center was recently re-accredited as a Level 1 Trauma Center for Adults by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

“It is truly an award for the hospital because it implies integrated, multidisciplinary care delivered by all components of the organization.  The Trauma Service remains grateful to the organization for its continued support,” said Jonathan D. Gates, MD, who has led the center since its inception in 1995.

The BWH Trauma Center has seen its role expand within the hospital and in the community as a leader in the area of trauma care over the past 18 years.

After an extensive review, which takes place every three years, the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma recognized BWH’s superior trauma care, which is composed of a core trauma surgeon team as well as competent trauma program staff. In addition, ACS also recognized the center’s disaster preparedness efforts, as well as its commitment to research and trauma and burn education.
