Diane Gold, MD, MPH |
Diane Gold, MD, MPH, of the Channing Division of Network Medicine, received the American Thoracic Society’s World Lung Health Award for her extraordinary contributions to improving lung health worldwide.
This award recognizes physicians and scientists in the area of translational or implementation research, delivery of health care, continuing education or care of patients with lung disease, or related political advocacy with a special emphasis on efforts that have the potential to eliminate gender, racial, ethnic or economic health disparities worldwide.
Gold is a pulmonologist and epidemiologist with more than 25 years of collaborative experience studying the relationships between environmental exposures — including indoor allergens, including fungi, smoking, outdoor ozone and particles — and birth outcomes, child growth and respiratory health from infancy to adulthood. She investigates environmental exposures that may explain socioeconomic, cultural and gender differences that have been observed in asthma severity. In addition to her lifelong commitment to health, social justice and environmental stewardship, she works tirelessly to support the next generation of pulmonary researchers.
Founded in 1905, the American Thoracic Society improves global health by advancing research, patient care and public health in pulmonary disease, critical illness and sleep disorders.
