Biomedical Engineering ensures that technology is used appropriately and safely, that it performs properly and that it is managed cost-effectively. Our unwavering goal is that no patient ever be harmed by a medical device, and so we continually seek to improve these devices, as well as to assist other staff who are working toward the same goal.

The Department of Pathology at BWH is recognized as one of the finest in the world. In addition to providing the highest level of clinical care, the Department’s other key missions are the translation of research discoveries into patient treatments, the rapid development of molecular tests across clinical laboratories, and the regular evaluation of the latest instruments and technologies.
Medical and technology staff are integral members of our team, providing either direct patient care (such as phlebotomy), laboratory services on challenging cases, or helping to train the next generation of physicians. Career ladders take into account basic skills, performance, leadership abilities, and technical expertise. Cross-training opportunities exist within the laboratories. Both full and part-time positions are available, covering multiple shifts.

The Department of Neurology provides care to patients with diseases of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves or muscles.
Specialists offer diagnostic evaluation, consultation and management of neurobehavioral and memory disorders, neuromuscular diseases, cerebrovascular disease, movement disorders, seizure disorders, sleep disorders, brain tumors and headaches.
The department's neurologists conduct research on Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, molecular immunology, neuronal cell biology, biochemistry and neuropathology.
Brigham and Women's Hospital Vascular Diagnostic Laboratory has attained recognition for its high level of patient care and quality testing in the diagnosis of vascular disease. Our facility achieved accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) – a distinction earned by only a select few laboratories.
The Laboratory is staffed by extensively trained vascular sonographers. It is equipped with state-of-the-art non-invasive imaging equipment, including three digital image archiving systems and six state-of-the-art ultrasound imaging devices.

Brigham and Women’s Radiology consistently ranks among the top 10 recipients of funding from the National Institutes of Health – which is in addition to the many grants we receive from organizations such as the Radiological Society of North America. This means that at any one time, there are dozens of large-scale projects being conducted by our department.
Many of our technologists relish the opportunity to mentor the next generation of colleagues. Since BWH is a teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School, our technologists are invited to teach at Harvard’s residency and fellowship training programs.

Central Transport moves patients during their stays, and also acts as a messenger and delivery service throughout the hospital. Requirements for members of the Transport Team are maturity, mobility, flexibility and a caring attitude.
Professionals working in our Engineering Department provide safe and reliable care for patients, employees and visitors at BWH.
With the addition of new buildings and new mechanical systems, BWH is a challenging and rewarding place for engineers. Positions in many licensed and unlicensed trades exist within the department. Employees have the opportunity to enhance their careers through additional training, which in turn leads to ongoing opportunities. Because the Engineering Department is such a great place to work, many of our employees have been with us their entire career.

The Environmental Services Department (ESD) plays a critical role in maintaining infection control, and employing state-of-the-art equipment and processes for the health and well being of our patients, staff and visitors.
