Channing Division of Network Medicine

Mission Statement

The Channing Division of Network Medicine is a research division within the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The Mission of the Channing Division of Network Medicine is:  To use an integrated, network-based, systems biology-driven approach to define the etiology of complex diseases; to reclassify complex diseases based on systems pathobiological mechanisms; and to develop new treatments and preventive strategies based on these new disease classifications using systems pharmacology approaches.

News & Highlights

March 5th, 2013  Badger Lecture in Network Medicine will be given by Dr. Marc Vidal from the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.  181 Longwood Ave 5th floor conference room at 12:30 PM.

There are three units within the Division:  Chronic Disease Epidemiology, Systems Genetics and Genomics, and Systems Pathobiology.

This unit includes several of the largest, most intensively studied, longitudinal cohorts in the world, including the Nurses Health Study.  Epidemiology of a broad range of complex chronic diseases is studied in these cohorts, using a variety of traditional and novel approaches, including genomics, metabolomics, and molecular pathoepidemiology.

This unit has traditionally focused on the genetic and environmental determinants of complex respiratory diseases.  Although asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease continue to be areas of great interest, additional disease areas will be studied using a variety of integrated genomics approaches.

A newly formed unit which will be focused on developing and applying systems biology approaches to complex diseases.  This unit will expand existing research programs that are applying network approaches to complex diseases.  We are actively recruiting new faculty for this unit.
