BWH Ambulatory Care Center
The radiology office at 850 Boylston Street provides a range of state-of-the-art imaging services in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.
On the 5th floor:
Bone density testing is performed on one of two Hologic 4500A bone densitometers. These systems are low dose x-ray units that can examine the spine, hip, forearm, or total body to determine the density of bone and the presence of osteoporosis and fracture risk.
Mammography Screening and diagnostic digital mammography performed. Digital imaging techniques are used to allow computer processing of images for greater confidence in diagnosis.
Ultrasonography is performed using modern equipment. These tests are used of a variety of obstetrical, gynecological and medical problems and use sound waves rather than x-rays to generate a picture. Trained radiologists are available on-site to ensure quality imaging and to obtain any additional ultrasound pictures to make your study the best possible.
Computer techniques allow x-ray studies to be performed similar to standard x-ray examinations but with a decreased chance that a film needs to be repeated due to technical problems.
On the 1st floor:
Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) is available on the first floor of the 850 Boylston Street facility. This scanner provides rapid cross-sectional imaging and the ability to reconstruct images in any plane for further analysis.
Virtual colonoscopy is performed to identify colon polyps and cancer. The study requires colon preparation similar to colonoscopy. The study uses insufflation of the colon and CT scanning to examine the large intestine. No anesthesia is necessary.
MRI Also present in this first floor suite is a 1.5 MRI scanner. This scanner provides state of the art imaging.
Who interprets your studies?
Board certified radiologists will interpret your study and render a written interpretation, usually the same day. The images and the reports are stored on the Brigham and Women's picture archiving system (PACS). This system also connects to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and the Faulkner Hospital network. The images are immediately available to Brigham and Women's, Faulkner, and DFCI referring physicians using the Web.
