The Kronos Early Estrogen Prevention Study (KEEPS) is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to investigate whether regimens of estrogen and intermittent progesterone initiated in healthy women in the menopausal transition can slow the development or progression of atherosclerosis. The effect of estrogen and progesterone on memory, mood, and thinking will also be examined. This trial is being conducted at Brigham and Women's Hospital and seven other academic centers in the United States. Recruitment for the KEEPS trial is in progress.
