Introduction
Please read through our quick Who, What, Why and
How orientation to this site to help you navigate most efficiently and find what you are looking for.
WHO is this site for?
This site is for adult women of all ages who
want to eat better and feel better and "clean up their act" on the way to losing weight. The first step is to
look at the quality of food choices you are making, as these can affect your health and energy level before,
and in addition to, affecting your weight.
If you are managing a chronic disease (diabetes,
high blood pressure, high cholesterol), this information is still good and applicable, however we do recommend
that you see a dietitian individually who can modify these recommendations according to your clinical needs.
WHAT is this site offering?
We are offering practical translations of the
latest recommendations for your food choices, for both preventing and managing chronic disease.
WHY?
There are a lot of health-focused websites
available, most of them with a singular focus on weight loss rather than improving food choices, and the
why's and how's of doing so. This site has been created, and is maintained, by an outpatient clinical staff
of Nutritionists at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. In addition to the patients we see with
acute and complicated medical issues, we have the opportunity to work with women who are trying to decrease
their risk of chronic disease through improved eating habits and weight loss. We want to bring this expertise
to a wider audience by offering some of the key messages and pieces of information here on our site.
WHERE to start?
If you would like to dive in with an assessment,
go to our Why I Eat Inventory.
You could also try the Body Image
assessment to learn more about how you see yourself, and how this affects your lifestyle. If you're ready to
dive in with changes, print out the Change of Pace/Cue Elimination list.
HOW?
The site is organized in four main categories,
representing areas that affect food choices and healthy lifestyles. To see what is contained in each section,
click on the title (Eating,
Exercise,
Emotions,
Success Strategies)
to get to its home page. There you will find a brief description of what is found within that section and
helpful hints for using the information. Start by skimming the home page of each section to see what interests you most.
We invite you to submit questions to our
FAQ page. This is updated
regularly, with answers to questions selected as most likely to be of general interest.
Look at our tools
section to find information with which to personalize a program, and in resources
for a collection of websites we recommend for other related information.
