Through the Dermatology Consultation Service, directed by Dr. Harley A. Haynes, M.D., Brigham Dermatology physicians evaluate, diagnose and treat skin conditions for patients who have been admitted to the hospital. Several of the clinical faculty in the Department of Dermatology, serve as inpatient consult attending physicians. This service responds to approximately 500 consults per year and is an important interface with the other clinical services in the hospital.

Pigmented Lesion Clinic
Directed by Danielle M. Miller, M.D., Ph.D. The Pigmented Lesion Clinic is a referral-based, comprehensive clinic for managing patients with a history of thin and good prognosis melanomas and atypical moles. The clinic is staffed by dermatologists with access to oncologists, surgeons and other specialists. The goal of the clinic is to provide information, convey prognosis, future treatment and follow-up, as well as patient education in the areas of sun protection and skin self-exam.
This comprehensive clinic monitors patients with:
• Personal history of melanoma;
• Multiple risk factors for melanoma;
• Dysplastic nevus syndrome.
Center for Skin and Related Musculoskeletal Diseases
At the Center for Skin and Related Musculoskeletal Diseases, Abrar A. Qureshi, M.D., M.P.H, from the Department of Dermatology collaborates with Elinor A. Mody, M.D., from the Division of Rheumatology, Immunology, and Allergy to simultaneously manage patient care and provide consultations, leading to rapid turnaround and diagnosis. The Center provides comprehensive care using the most advanced treatment for patients with concomitant systemic rheumatic and skin diseases, including psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, cutaneous lupus, and other diseases with both cutaneous and musculoskeletal symptoms.
State-of-the-art treatment and diagnostic services at the Center include:
• Biologic agents;
• Advanced diagnostic radiology services;
• Coordination with world-renowned dermatopathologists;
• On-site specialized nursing care and teaching.
Angiogenesis and Wound Healing Center
Laura Winterfield, M.D. in collaboration with Vincent W. Li, M.D., MBA. provide advanced care for patients with actinic keratoses, skin cancers, psoriasis, acne rosacea, keloids, vascular growths, and chronic wounds, the Center uses innovative treatment approaches to restore angiogenesis balance in these conditions, including:
• Recombinant growth factor therapy, cytokine inducers, and TNF-alpha inhibitor biologics;
• Matrix metalloprotease inhibitors;
• Thalidomide, retinoids, vitamin D3 analogs, and Cox-2 inhibitors;
• Tissue engineered skin cell therapy.
The Angiogenesis and Wound Healing Center helps patients avoid limb amputation through advanced outpatient therapies. Patients receive clinical evaluation and diagnosis, office debridement, bacterial bioburden management, advanced dressings, and bioactive treatment modalities as an integral part of their care.
Center for Skin Disease in Organ Transplant and Immunosuppressed Patients
Danielle M. Miller, M.D., Ph.D, is Director of the Center for Skin Disease in Organ Transplant Recipients and Immunosuppressed Patients. This clinic is designed to address complex skin diseases associated with long-term immunosuppression. The Center’s leading services include:
• Development of long-term plans for management and treatment based on comprehensive skin examination and assessment of risk factors for the development of skin cancer;
• Patient evaluation before organ transplantation. Regular follow up visits for continued skin surveillance looking for the development of skin cancers;
• Oral and Topical chemo preventative measures for high-risk patients to help reduce the rate of development of skin cancers;
• Patient education regarding sun protection, risk reduction, and early detection of skin cancer.
Infectious Disease and Immunology Clinic
The Infectious Disease and Immunology Clinic aims to provide comprehensive care for patients with a variety of complex medical disorders. The clinic is directed by Arturo Saavedra, M.D.,Ph.D., who has admitting privileges to the medical ward and is trained in Internal Medicine, Dermatology and Dermatopathology. Consequently, patients will have access to medical diagnostics, imaging, dermatopathology and surgical approaches as part of their initial consultation. The clinic will also provide longitudinal care for those patients who would benefit from follow-up for chronic disorders. Innovative and advanced systemic therapeutics are available for those patients who require intensive treatment for diseases that complicate

• Bone Marrow Transplantation
• Chemotherapy-induced immunosuppresion
• Genetically-coded susceptibility to malignancy or infection
• Autoimmune disorders, both systemic or limited to the skin

- Laser and Aesthetics Dermatology
Directed by Dr. Deborah A. Scott, M.D., this center offers comprehensive laser and aesthetic services for patients. This center provides state-of-the-art laser treatments to treat broken capillaries of the face, port wine stains and other vascular lesions, spider veins, brown spots and tattoos, facial rejuvenation and wrinkle reduction, hair removal for all skin colors. Aesthetic services offered to patients at this center include cosmetic fillers and Botox®, chemical peels and microdermabrasion, scelerotherapy for treatment of leg veins, and treatment and evaluation of hair loss.

- Cutaneous Lymphoma Clinic
Patients with cutaneous T- and B-cell lymphomas, Merkel cell carcinoma, and graft versus host disease can be evaluated and treated by a team of dermatologic and medical oncologists with unique expertise in these uncommon diseases. Thomas S. Kupper, M.D., Director, Center for Cutaneous Oncology at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, and Chairman, Department of Dermatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, leads this unit, which has become a local, regional, and national referral center for patients with these conditions. This clinic is open on Wednesday mornings.
- Melanoma and Cutaneous Oncology Clinic
Patients with melanoma, non-melanoma conditions such as squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, rare cutaneous malignancies (adnexal neoplasms) and cutaneous malignancies of the immunocompromised patient population are seen by dermatologic oncologists, medical oncologists, and surgical oncologists at the Melanoma and Cutaneous Oncology Clinic at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center. Harley A. Haynes, M.D. and F. Steven Hodi, Jr., M.D., direct the clinic, which employs a multidisciplinary approach to treatment for patients with these conditions. This clinic is open on Wednesday afternoons.

Chrysalyne Schmults, M.D., Director of the Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery Center, offers highly-specialized outpatient surgical techniques for removing skin cancers with excellent outcomes. The most successful surgical treatment modality for basal and squamous cell carcinomas, Mohs surgery has a remarkable 99 percent cure rate with new cancers and 95 percent cure rate for recurrent disease, while conserving as much normal tissue as possible. Nearly 700 patients were treated last year with Mohs surgery at the Center for Cutaneous Oncology.

- Directed by Dr. David Jones, M.D., Ph.D. and Dr. Abrar Qureshi, M.D., MPH, the TRRC facilitates multidisciplinary translational research studies in a variety of skin diseases as well as studies of related cancers, autoimmune diseases, and inflammatory conditions. To achieve its mission, this center will develop integrated repositories of epidemiologic data and tissue samples. TRRC is currently developing repositories for studies of psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, cutaneous T cell lymphoma (CTCL), and non-melanoma skin cancer. A repository of tissue specimens from healthy controls is also under development. Collaborations are underway to study psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, CTCL, and non-melanoma skin cancer. The center is very interested in establishing new collaborations, which can utilize these resources, as well as establishing collaborations to develop additional repositories.
