Congratulations! The birth of a baby is a wonderful and exciting experience. As you prepare for your new arrival, you may consider taking advantage of some excellent resources at your disposal. Attending parent/childbirth education classes can help you obtain the knowledge, confidence and support you need during your pregnancy and after the birth of your baby. To assist your preparation, we have provided information about several services available.
Childbirth Preparation Classes
A large number of our patients find it valuable to participate in a package of prenatal education classes. The Brigham and Women's Hospital collaborates with Isis Maternity to provide you with high quality prenatal and postpartum services. Isis Maternity, a preferred provider of childbirth education services for patients who deliver at BWH, offers a broad range of classes, groups, workshops, private consultations and products for expecting and new parents. Many Isis Maternity classes are taught by instructors with years of experience working at BWH as Labor and Delivery nurses. Please sign up for classes by your 6th month of pregnancy (24-28 weeks) to be sure you get the classes you prefer. The most popular and recommended classes for expecting parents include: Childbirth Education, Breastfeeding Basics, Newborn Essentials and Infant CPR.
Isis Maternity also operates an extensive breastfeeding service with classes, free drop-in support groups, lactation consultations, breast pump rentals, and nursing supplies. They carry a wide selection of maternity and nursing bras, compression stockings, belly pillows, belly/back support belts, books and much more.

Sibling Class
As exciting as the arrival of a new baby is, it is also a big transition for siblings. This lively one-hour program prepares children ages 3.5 to 6 years old for their mother's hospital stay and the arrival of the new baby. This class does not include a hospital tour; free tours should be scheduled separately (see below). Children younger than 3.5 should attend ONLY the tour (see below). Price: $35/family
Sibling Tour
We offer this brief tour of the hospital for children who are expecting a sibling. Accompanied by a parent, the tour allows young children to visit a postpartum room before the new baby arrives and peek in at the newborns in the nursery. Appropriate for children ages 3.5 to 6 years of age. Price: Free
