We are proud to serve the patient community and their families. We provide state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment services. Delivering quality patient care is the center of everything we do. To ensure the highest standard of care, the Cardiac Surgery Division provides continuous monitoring of quality, patient outcomes, and complications by procedure, patient, and physician.
During recent years, surgeons have sought to decrease the trauma of heart surgery by finding ways to decrease pain, complications, and recovery time while also achieving superior cosmetic results, improving patient satisfaction, and decreasing costs. One focus is to perform minimally invasive valve and congenital surgery through small incisions, including the revolutionary computer-enhanced da Vinci surgical system, a robotic technique currently offered at only 12 centers nationwide. Another focus is to reduce the use of the heart-lung machine by performing coronary bypass surgery with the heart beating, accomplished by stabilizing portions of the heart one area at a time.
Standard approaches and nonsurgical interventions also will continue to play a key role in cardiac surgery as the profession strives to use new surgical technologies economically and responsibly. For individual service descriptions and other resources for patients, please use the links below.
