Patient Education and Support

An important component of the Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery is its dedication to patient education – helping to ensure that each patient is an integral part of the care team, providing input and making decisions based on the latest information. We offer numerous resources to help guide you through the process of infertility treatment. Your team will share more detailed resources with you once you become an established patient and develop a treatment plan.

Emotional Support

Because a diagnosis of infertility can be overwhelming, our staff includes two Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LICSW) who specialize in helping individuals and couples to cope with the stressors of fertility treatment.

Our Social Work Team

Anne Geoghegan, LICSW, has been a practicing Social Worker and Therapist for over 25 years. She has devoted more than 20 years to caring for patients in the Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery (CIRS) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Experiencing infertility can be so emotional, stressful and upsetting for women, men and couples. In her role at CIRS, Annie is committed to helping patients navigate this often difficult journey. She works with women experiencing miscarriages, single women, patients anticipating an IVF cycle, and couples whose relationships are stressed by the infertility experience. In addition, she evaluates egg donors, helps recipient couples manage the feelings around using an egg donor and patients using sperm donors and gestational carriers.

Jessica Marks, LICSW, has been practicing for over 14 years. Jessica has spent her career supporting individuals and families in many ways: considering adoption, experiencing loss in a variety of ways, and navigating difficult life transitions. She holds certifications as a trauma counselor and mediator, a training helpful in working with patients facing the emotional and logistical aspects of fertility treatment.

Both Annie and Jessica are professional members of RESOLVE Inc., the American Society of Reproductive Medicine and the Boston Fertility Society.

Our Social Workers are available to meet one-on one or as a couple. They are also available to help with relaxation, stress management or running support groups.
